Retired from boats in 1976 and emigrated to Canada. Took Odin out to Australia in 1972. My time at Platypus with Odin was the best. Now sailing the Bahamas on our Corbin 39 and travelling the USA in our 2000 Beaver Marquis Amethyst motorcoach.

Hoping some of my mates will get in touch.

To this day I still ponder on my time in boats. Such an amazing collection of humanity to work and live with, freaks, weirdos, nutjobs, pissheads, eccentrics and party animals and all utterly professional. I am proud to be associated and counted as one of these. Whenever I have periods of self doubt I always reflect on the fact that I was one of the less than 10% that completed training and got my Dolphins - The thought always seems to perk me up! Currently working in the DMO as a System Engineer in the MCDSPO.

Saddened in 1983 when I had to pay-off. Able to return in 1985, but no more guzzunders! Had a great 40 years in the RN/RAN and retirement in 2005 left a huge hole in my life. Met some great people in the Squadron and the Fleet, and had some great postings ('cept Comms School. Weirdest memory - Cactus Klease dry retching after watching the Coxn lancing a boil on Wally Ware's back. Saddest memories - finding Steve Booth after taking his own life and the passing of Mickey Pearce with whom I shared much of my career; we had our first ever sea posting together - HMS Mohawk.

Put up with your foul smelling bodies and overalls for 4 years, In sickness and in health, jabbing you here, there and everywhere when needed. Shared some of the best and saddest times of my life with you, you were my close knit family and I was and still am proud to have shared that time of my life with you.

Served on Onslow 1971-73. The Navy, especially my time in submarines was the best thing I did in my youth, I became a gypsy and traveled the world as some of the submariners found out when they went to UK on Qantas to requalify. The crew in ONSLOW were the best shipmates anyone could wish to sail with.

There are no many days that go by where I don't think or talk about the great friendships made and the experiences had during my time (1997 - 1999) and sadly I still love the sweet smell of diesel and bilge, (the Otama Motor Rm Bilge Olympic Team) don't think I'll ever forget it. Have been back at sea for the past 3 years as a merchant skimmer, and have been to more ports than I did in the Collins class.  Sailed to Antartica with Phill Ivens, am at sea with Chris Rubley at the moment on the MV Rockwater 2. Miss the boys, but don't really miss the pus. Except when I've had a few too many and can't find anyone to understand my humour.
