CPOMTPSM GEOFFREY PETER MITCHELL R54942. Geoffrey Mitchell was born in Rose Park South Australia in November 1941 and enlisted in the RAN on the 21st of November 1958.

 After training at HMAS Cerberus he was rated as a Mechanic Engineering and posted to the Q Class Frigate HMAS Quiberon. He remained on Quiberon until March 1961, before joining HMAS Parramatta on her commissioning in July of that year. 

Geoffrey was promoted to Acting Leading ME in November 1961, and confirmed in rank a year later. He remained on Parramatta until January 1963 at which time he posted ashore to HMAS Penguin for 12 months.

 He returned to sea on the frigate HMAS Gascoyne in early 1964, but in July 1964 he posted to HMAS Nirimba as an Acting PO ME to commence Mechanician training. Geoff returned to sea in 1966 as a PO Mechanician on HMAS Derwent, and was promoted to Mechanician 1st Class (CPO) before volunteering for submarines and travelling to the UK in 1968 for submarine training. 

He returned to Australia in 1969 and served on HMAS Otway. His postings post NPEMS are unclear, however it is believed he discharged end of engagement in 1973. CPO Geoffrey Mitchell passed away in March 2024 and was buried in the Thirlmere cemetery in NSW. Vale Geoffrey Mitchell.
