St Kilda - Things To Do
Acland Street, St Kilda - Neighbourhood: St. Kilda
St. Kilda is an iconic beachside suburb and one of the most culturally and economically diverse of Melbourne’s neighbourhoods. It is a traditional haven for musicians, artists and writers, drawn to the European ambience and fresh ocean breezes. At night, it can have an edgier side, but by day, it features a relaxed vibe – the market stalls, boutiques and outdoor bars display St. Kilda’s easy-going attitude. Ocean winds blow from Port Phillip Bay and waves lap onto its long and mostly deserted beaches. Rides whir at the world’s oldest operational Luna Park. On a lazy weekend morning, bikers cruise along Acland Street, showing off their motorcycles. But the late morning crowds are too busy at brunch to notice. St. Kilda is a perfect place to relax after a night out with friends.
Take a stroll down the St Kilda pier and visit the Penguins.
The St Kilda Breakwater is home to a colony of Little Penguins. The isolation of the breakwater is an ideal location for them to live. Just before dusk, you can view the colony coming ashore from the promenade on the St Kilda Breakwater. A viewing platform is accessible at the head of the pier; however, it can be very busy at times. We recommend visiting during weeknights to reduce traffic and for the protection of the penguins.
St Kilda Esplanade Markets
In its idyllic beachside location, the St Kilda Esplanade Market is an icon of St Kilda and Melbourne. A world-renowned art and craft makers’ haven, the market has been the destination of choice for those seeking high-quality and authentic Australian products since 1970. Find a range of arts, crafts and other original creations to take home every Sunday from 10am.
Located on the Upper Esplanade in St Kilda.
Opening Hours
10am to 5pm (daylight saving hours)
10am to 4pm (all other times)
