In Memory of

CPOMTP4SM PHILLIP “JIMMY” DORANTE

May He Rest In Peace

The SAA is saddened to advise of the passing of SAA member Jimmy Dorante on the 3 rd of May 2025.
Jimmy joined the RAN in the early 1970s, having been raised on
Hammond Island in the Torres Strait and educated at the Thursday Island State School.
He volunteered for submarines in 1975 and he was a commissioning crew member of HMAS Orion.
It was whilst standing by Orion in Scotland that he would meet and marry his wife Janice.
Jimmy was one of those shipmates who nobody had a bad word about.
He was quiet and unassuming, but with a quick wit and a wicked sense of humour.
He was also a very talented Marine Technician and many sailors benefited by serving under and with him.
He passed away after a long battle with Pancreatic and Liver Cancer" .
The SAA extends its condolences to Janice and Jimmy’s sons
and their extended family and friends.
