LSMTP3SM WILLIAM (BILLY) EDGAR,

It is with great sadness that the SAA advises of the death of Billy Edgar in Queensland on the 29th of October.
Billy was a member of the third intake of Sailstruc Apprentices into HMAS Nirimba in July 1973 and he joined submarines in the late 1970s.
Notable classmates of Billy at Nirimba who also joined submarines were Nigel Dunchue, Merv Drummond, Kevin Smart, Peter Walsh, Roger Barlow and Laurie Reeves.
On leaving the navy Billy worked in various maintenance and engineering jobs, including for Frasers maintaining Submarine Escape Equipment.
He joined the Queensland Fire Service in the early 1990s serving in it until his retirement in 2022.
Billy’s wife Kim passed away 18 months ago and in April of this year Billy suffered a stroke from which he never recovered.
He is survived by his sons Jake, Nedd, who is a Veteran of two tours to the Middle East, and his daughter Molly.
Bill was not a member of the Association, however the National Executive extends their condolences to Billy’s family on behalf of the wider submarine community.
Funeral details will be advised when known.

Rest in Peace Billy Edgar,

your watch is over.
